Activities & Events
The Parkinson's Education & Support Group of Sussex County (DE) had a successful fundraiser with it's walk on the Rehobeth Beach boardwalk on May 18th, 2013. The money raised by the event was targeted to support their vision for helping the entire Parkinson's community on the Delmarva Peninsula.
And they are well on their way!

The Vision: Improving Parkinson's Treatment Capabilities on the Delmarva Peninsula
(Read a detailed description of the Vision HERE).
Vision Item 1: Telemedicine. The first contractual telemedicine program between two major health care facilities serving the Parkinson's community on Delmarva was launched on July 10, 2013 by Johns Hopkins Medicine of Baltimore, MD and La Red Health Care in Georgetown, DE. Lee Leebel, the Sussex PD Group leader was instrumental in moving the new initiative forward, and his wife Betty was the first patient to participate. ( To learn more see the Press Release and the article in The News Journal).
Vision Item 2: Parkinson's Wellness Recovery program (PWR). Two (2) two-day training courses were presented in October at the Stockley Center in Millsboro, DE. The PWR program is a "neurological physical therapy" practice gaining popularity in the Parkinson's community since it's inception in 2009. The first two-day course (October 26-27) was for physical and occupational therapists and assistants. The second session (October 28-29) was a Fitness Course for persons interested in organizing or leading a fitness class in PWR. Thirty-two clinicians and twenty-three trainers/fitness class instructors attended and became certified to provide PWR! services and training.
See pictures and videos of the four-day training session below. For more information about this dynamic exercise program and to find instructors, trainers or classes on Delmarva go to "PWR! Links" on our Links & Resources page.
